Fleet size limits in Software:

There a theory that is prevalent in the business world that software makers have readily adopted. It's the charge them as much as they can afford theory. How this effects fleet management is software makers believe the larger you fleet the more you can pay. Let's look at an example

Software xyz charges $1000 for fleets up to 15 and then $2000

Fleet A has 16 machines to maintain. 8 of these are trucks 3 front-end loaders, 1 excavator 1 screen all, a tractor and a lawnmower. This is not a "flat out fleet" so all trucks may not be on the road. The mower is used once a week, tractor about once a month and screen-all a couple times a year.

Fleet B has 10 Trucks. These trucks run 2 shifts per day every day. I would guess that fleet B would have almost twice as many maintenance and fuel records as fleet A yet they pay half as much.

Here's the SECRET: Most likely they are both running the same exact software. The developers just put in a switch to allow more than 15 or deny it. Why? Because the bigger fleet can pay more. It's kind of like buying a truck with a governor in it set to 55. For an extra $5000 they will set it to 65, for another $5000 they will remove it. Same engine, same truck, just different prices.
